We had a fun evening using our fire pit for the first time since we got it 4 months ago. It was chilly outside, which made it perfect weather for a fire. We roasted marshmallows and made smores.

Fire Pit Smores
I Joined the Meyer Reading Club
So I finally read the Stephenie Meyer books. It took my a total of 10 days to read all four books, not counting the 2 weeks to read the first 5 chapters in Twilight (it took a while to get into it.) I thought I would share my insightful (a hint of sarcasm) thoughts on the series without giving anything away for those who still haven't read the books. First off I enjoyed the books. I thought it was a fun story and I kept wanting to find out what was going to happen. I didn't turn into a crazed fan that could read each book 10 times (Dana;) maybe because I didn't have to wait for the release of the next book after finishing one, but I am looking forward to watching the movie when it comes out. Justin won't be around for that, anyone want to go with me? ;)
One thing that amazed me was the amount of typos in the books, especially in Breaking Dawn.
[I stopped typing to go check on Charlee and Justee, who are being too quiet in the living room. I found them with the container of cookie dough that Justin brought home last night from Papa Murphy's, eating it by the handfuls...not that I blame them, who doesn't like cookie dough; but jeez shouldn't someone be watching them?]
I never really fell in love with Bella, and I only cared what happened to her for Edward's sake. I felt like the books took too long to get to the point most of the time, the whole thing could probably be condensed into 2 books. One of the best parts (ok not really, but I liked it) was when Meyer avoided one of my pet peeves...most authors do get it right, which is why it bothers me so much when people say it wrong all the time...ok I'll get to the point now...She wrote "couldn't care less." Most people say "I could care less." That doesn't make sense because it means that you do care if you could care less, which is opposite of what you are trying to say. If you say you couldn't care less, then you don't care at all. That was a little off subject, so I'll end by saying that I did enjoy the series and I would recommend it to others; I just wouldn't call it a 'must read.'
I must be bored waiting for Justin to get home in order to have posted this...

Denver Zoo
I guess everyone had the same plans for their Labor Day as we had...to go to the zoo. I have never seen the zoo so packed! The parking lots and garage were full, plus they were packed with cars looking for a place to park. We had to park at a nearby park and walk to the zoo. The girls had a wonderful time. They were so excited every time we saw a new animal. I was amazed at how much Sydnee remembered about the zoo, being that she has only been there once and it was over a year ago. Last year we didn't get to see the kangaroos, so Sydnee put them on her priority list this time. Justee loved climbing the fences, she wanted to climb in with all the animals. Justee absolutely loved the polar bears and was making everyone around us smile and laugh because of her enthusiasm. She loved all the big cats too; she kept saying "Kitty-cat, big." When Justin pointed out the cheetah and told her it was fast, she kept saying, "Momma, past. Past cat." Charlee really wanted to go on the carousel once she spotted it; none of the animals were going to hold her interest, so we headed to the carousel. Sydnee rode a zebra, Charlee rode a baboon, and Justee and I rode an ostrich. It took Char a while to get settled, but after she did she loved it. Justee screamed at me when we got off because she wanted to keep riding. We have been wanting to go to the zoo all summer, but just haven't gotten around to it. I'm glad we got to go today, we all had a great time.
We let the girls pick out a stuffed animal at the gift shop. Syd picked a kangaroo, Charlee picked an elephant, and Justee picked a giraffe and then a little ostrich (after trying to coax one of them away from her I could see that it was going to be a losing battle and she left the store with two animals. Justee didn't last 2 mins in the car before she was out.

1st Day of School!
Sydnee just left for school and she was soooo excited! She loves school and has missed seeing her friends everyday. I am happy to see her go because it will keep her busy and now I won't have to hear her tell me she is bored and wants to do something fun all the time. ;) Her teacher is Mrs. Cunningham, and she seems like a really sweet (& tiny, there has to be 5th graders bigger than her) lady. Getting up at 7am to get Syd ready for school seems a bit early for me, but I'm sure we will all adjust. I could go back to bed if Char and Justee weren't up. I have to drive up to Syd's school today before lunch because I forgot to give Syd her lunch money. I got it all ready and told Syd about it and then I forgot to put it in her backpack.
Hooray for 1st grade!
